Nick Szabo is a computer scientist and legal scholar who created Bit Gold in 1998, widely considered the most direct precursor to Bitcoin. He coined the term "smart contracts" and his work on digital scarcity and decentralized consensus laid foundational groundwork for Bitcoin. Many have speculated he may be Satoshi Nakamoto, which he denies.
